Traveling Doesn't Have To Be All That Difficult

 

 

If you find the idea of travel daunting, focus on a destination that interests you, and gather information that focuses on that place specifically. There are so many places to see, that one can get lost in the sea of information. Once you decide on a target destination, limit your research and lower your stress.

 

 

This may seem like common sense, but one important thing to be sure of when you are traveling is that you're reservations for hotels, flights, visits to attractions and monuments, etc. are correct. Double check confirmation e-mails and contact customer service if anything seems amiss. You don't want to miss a flight, an attraction, or spend a night wandering around town because the reservation was not what and when you thought it was.

 

When flying, be sure to wear loose fitting clothes and slip-on shoes. This will ensure that your flight is comfortable. Not only that, it won't take as long to get through security if you can quickly take your shoes on and off. Loose clothing will allow for any short term swelling that you may experience due to air pressure in the plane's cabin.

 

Be flexible when making your travel plans. Unless there is some reason that you must travel on a specific day, flexibility will save you money. Allowing a booking website to search for flights near your desired travel dates could save you as much as a hundred dollars per flight, especially if it shifts you off of a weekend flight.

 

A doorstop may be of help if you're going to be in a hotel in a not-so-great area. They don't take up a lot of space, but they are great for keeping doors shut.

 

If you're planning on taking a cell phone with you on your trip, make sure to call your cell phone provider to ask them about roaming charges. The familiarity of your cell phone may make you feel better, but it may cost you a lot more to use it on foreign soil. A good alternative is buying a local SIM card and using it while you're there.

 

When deciding what to wear on your feet when you go on a plane ride, keep in mind that you will be most comfortable in shoes that slip off easily. Crocs or flip flops are best because they can be taken off or put on in an instant.

 

Consider attaching small bells to your carry-on bag. If you are worried that someone might steal or tamper with your luggage during a flight, attach bells to it. Inexpensive, Christmas jingle bells will do nicely. The noise is likely to deter criminals. If not, the noise will draw your attention.

 

When you are traveling overseas, make sure that you know and obey all of the local laws. The embassies and consulates can only help you so much. If you commit a crime on foreign soil, according to foreign law, your government will be unable to override those laws and you must submit to the punishment of that country's laws.

 

As you look through reviews of hotel rooms, musicals, attractions, and airlines, pay close attention to the dates of each review before taking the contents at face value. A review written five years ago might be based on factors that may have changed in the meantime, like operating hours, main events, management, or pricing.

 

Ask around on the social networks you frequent for any tips or recommendations of the area you're planning on visiting. You'll be surprised just what may come up. Ask what the best hotels are, what the best restaurants are, what places of interest you should visit. Friends usually give the best ideas!

 

Be sure to acquire travel insurance prior to taking a big trip, especially if your vacation is in a foreign country or includes adventurous activities. It is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your health. Travel insurance can cover you for any medical evaluations, issues or procedures necessary while you are traveling.

 

Learn a few basic phrases in the local language. While it is impractical to attempt to learn the entire language of every country you visit, you should focus on memorizing some key phrases to make your journey easier. This is especially true if you have dietary restrictions, so you can inform your waiter properly and avoid potential allergies.

 

If you do not know the language of the area you will be traveling to, try to learn a few basic phrases before you go. If you can ask if someone speaks English, in their language, they may be more likely to help you out or help you find someone else who can help you. Also, a smile goes a long way. Don't be an obnoxious, English speaker.
